Dahlia Days

As the fall days shorten, there’s one bright spot in the garden – at least until the first frost. Stiles and Jonathan’s collection of dahlias is second to none!

When you visit Halcyon House Antiques, you will see masses of freshly cut dahlias decorating the tables, using some of our vases and bowls. IMG_5004Untitled-1

At the recent Valleys Planning Council’s Art for Land’s Sake Show and Sale, Stiles made the most magnificent arrangement, nearly FIVE feet tall!IMG_4992

At the top, you can get a glimpse of one of the most beautiful dahlias – it’s the palest shell pink on the outer petals, and fades to a creamy white on the inner ones. IMG_4982

Sometimes, when we’re closing on Saturday, we give the flowers at the shop to friends who are at the store, and they re-arrange them at home. IMG_5009

We’re expecting the first frost any week now, and once that happens, the dahlias will be gone again for another year. But while they’re here, they bring a lot of joy!

Baubles & Beads

One of our favorite jewelry designers is Angela Caputi, from Florence, Italy, whom Jonathan discovered on a stroll through the city one evening. Although the shop was closed, he made a point of going back the next day, and meeting with Angela and her staff, and then placing an order for Halcyon House Antiques.

We are thrilled to announce that we’ve just received the pieces from her fall line, and they’re fantastic! The colors are so rich and lush. IMG_4202The styles are so chic!IMG_4198

Angela has a great eye for design, and it shows in every piece she’s created. IMG_4200IMG_4195IMG_4591IMG_4631IMG_4637

Come on by and check these pieces for yourself. Remember, the holidays aren’t too far off, and a piece of Angela Caputi would make a great gift for you… or for someone you love.

As always, Eric is happy to chat with you about anything you’ve seen here.

Leather + Luxe

There’s a concept called Rough Luxe, which is elegant luxury with a rough edge to it. Think about a gorgeous wedding band with a rough cut diamond, or a beautiful silk ball skirt with a pair of cowboy boots under it. IMG_4606We recently started showing a line of jewelry which is leather and luxury. Think thin leather lacing with beautiful fresh water and button pearls, pieces of crystal, and bits of abalone shell.IMG_4611IMG_4621IMG_4613IMG_4615IMG_4623IMG_4627

This is a great look and every time you wrap it or tie it, the piece will look a little bit different.

As always, if you see anything that interests you, please contact Eric and tell him that he needs to dust!

Sneak Peek at the VPC Show!

As you may know, we’re massive fans of the Valleys Planning Council and are thrilled, again this year, to be a vendor at the biennial Art for Land’s Sake Art Show and Sale happening October 2-4. Halcyon House Antiques will have a space in the barn and we will look forward to seeing you there.

Here’s a sneak peek of some of the things we’re taking to the show. This is going to be the first weekend where there’s a real chill in the air, so be sure to check out our beautiful scarves and wraps.  From elegant and dressy to warm and cozy, we’ve got you covered (hahaha!).

Zinnias from Our Garden

As you may know, both Stiles and Jonathan are master gardeners and at this time of year, the gardens are lush with a variety of flowers which we like to use in the shop. IMG_4226

Last week, we put zinnias (Zinnia violacea) in two big hurricane lamps, which do an excellent job of doubling as vases. IMG_4228

IMG_4238 IMG_4242

Because we were closing on Sunday and Monday, a friend took the zinnias home and used them in loose arrangement, this time in an old champagne buckets. IMG_4258

We hope that you’re taking advantage of the final burst of fresh flowers from your garden or from the local farmers’ markets in the area. The days will be drawing in soon, and fresh flowers will be at a premium.

Valley Planning Council’s Art Show and Sale

Every other year, the Valley Planning Council hosts an art show and sale called “Art for Land’s Sake”. This year’s show will feature more than 350 works of art from local, regional and national artists working in a variety of media ranging from found objects to photography, and from oils on canvas to pencil on tinted paper. Of course there are numerous landscapes of the beautiful valleys that we are working to preserve. In other words, there is something for everyone!

Once you’ve had your fill of art, browse the exclusive vendors who are at the show for the weekend, including Halcyon House Antiques. HHart4landssake

Turquoise is the Color of Summer!

It’s almost the end of August, and whether you’ve been sitting around the pool, or have just been out and about, you’ve probably got a great tan by now. There is nothing at all that looks better with a tan than turquoise… Well, maybe white.IMG_4522

As I was wandering around the shop on Saturday, I noticed that we have a few great pieces of turquoise, and the best thing is that most of them are HALF OFF!IMG_4520

Let’s check out some of what’s in the image…

  • A turquoise and white tunic – the tunic along with a pair of white skinnies would look great for a girls lunch, picking up the kids at school, or just a jaunt to the liquor store!
  • A turquoise and white chevron tote bag – great for groceries or packing things to tote to those waning days at the pool.
  • Double strand of ombre clear and turquoise faceted beads – can be dressed up or down.
  • Large linked chain – this is so on-trend for this year, and it would look great with a LBD.

IMG_4534Don’t forget – if anything here is of interest, please contact Eric, our man with a tan.

Off to the Hunt

Here in the beautiful Green Spring Valley, many of our lives revolve around horses and hounds, so when we saw this fabulous 1920’s-vintage Royal Doulton china, we had to snap it up for the shop!IMG_4268

There are a variety of pieces with this set, and we’re selling them by the piece, because we realize that not everyone wants a huge set of china. My favorite pieces are the fun square plates with the detail of the rider in the pond!IMG_4274

Each piece has little details for you to find and that’s part of their charm!IMG_4272

Come on and see this great china before it’s all gone with the wind!

As ever, if you see something that interests you, contact our stable manager, Eric!

Half Off!

Our annual summer sale is on, and we’re offering half off on our women’s summer accessories!HHsummersale2015REVISEc

A tunic and some turquoise-colored jewelry? Think of how great that would look with a tan!

As always, if you have questions contact Eric, he knows everything.

We’ve Got the Blues!

Summer and blue and white china go together like rock and roll! Or something like that.
We decided to see how much blue and white china, glassware and accessories we could gather to make a beautiful display!

It all started with some fish-shaped bowls.IMG_3703

And then we added in some cobalt blue wine rinsers. IMG_3711

Then we found a few of these blue and white plates and trays in contemporary patterns.IMG_3716

Next, we layered in some blue and “white” glassware up and down. IMG_3715

And then some more.IMG_3763

And after moving a few things around, and stepping back, we took a moment to admire our work!IMG_3718

If you want to get the blues, contact Eric at the shop. He will know the cure for the blues.

Turning the Table

Jonathan and Stiles are the kind of those people who can pick and choose and then arrange the most gorgeous display with seemingly very little effort. IMG_3653It’s such fun to watch them wander around the shop, picking up glassware from here,IMG_3687 trays from thereIMG_3696 and accessories that I’ve overlooked.IMG_3699 After fiddling around for a few minutes, moving things a few inches to the left or right, swapping pieces, and stepping back to check, a masterpiece is born!IMG_3693

As always, if you see anything that catches your eye, please contact Eric, who will be delighted to help you!
