Tea Time

As we begin planning for our Portobello Road Pop Up, Meg has created some designs for linen and cotton tea towels featuring English themes. Using illustrations, old line drawings, vintage and antique maps, she creates collages with whimsey and history.

Taking lines from the British anthem, this design is an homage to the Queen.

This antique scheme for a country garden is the centerpiece on this design.

The original illustration for Alice in Wonderland and tea-time… What could be more English?

Locally, we have this amazing bird’s eye drawing of Baltimore from 1912, complete with many buildings you will recognize. The original drawing has been colorized for better clarity.

What’s New?

Summer’s winding down and autumn’s on the way. The changing of the seasons leaves us a bit melancholy, but we’ll do what we can to buck up and deal with it!

All of our gorgeous melamine plates, bowls and dishes are on sale for 20% off!

We LOVE Julia Reed and her newest book is simply amazing. Gorgeous recipes, beautiful images and funny stories. Julia does a lot of writing for Garden & Gun.

If you’re getting ready for some travelling, these great tote bags will take care of all of your needs. And you’re not likely to lose them.

These battery-operated tapers are the most perfect thing for those candelabras that are hard to reach, because you can turn these on and off with a remote control! And the “flame” even flickers.

The holidays are coming, and while it’s a bit early to be showing off our holiday goods, we couldn’t resist sharing these fun pinecones.

Portobello: A Halcyon House Pop-Up

Our friend Meg, who has written the blog Pigtown*Design for the past ten years, and who is a lover of all things English, will be having a pop-up show at Halcyon House in mid-September. When Meg lived in England and Wales, she loved spending time poking around antiques fairs, car-boot sales and especially places like Portobello Road. Over the years, she has made trips back to the UK to shop for herself and her friends.

Meg shops for things she loves, figuring that if she loves them, others will as well. She has collected beautiful serving pieces from the late 1800’s, amazingly detailed mother-of-pearl handled silverware, and a great collection of individual English transfer-ware both in blue and white and polychrome, perfect for expanding your collections!

Light Up Your Life

Our blogger has been on vacation for the past few weeks, so we apologize for the lack of posts! But she’s back and is seeing the light!

We just got some of the most gorgeous lamps in, from Visual Comfort, one of the leading lamp-makers. They always have the most stunning lamps, and we’re lucky to be their stockist in the area.

At Halcyon House, we specialize in gorgeous vignettes, and they are often commented upon. Jonathan, Stiles and Eric are all responsible for arranging them, all to highlight a piece that we’re featuring for your perusal.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

Mirrors are a brilliant decorating accent for any number of reasons. They bounce the light around. They’re great for a quick check before you head out the door. They can add a note of elegance to any décor. They are timeless.

At Halcyon House Antiques, we’ve just gotten some of the MOST amazing mirrors into the shop. This Venetian-style mirror is bordered by the most gorgeous beveled blue glass. Here’s the same mirror in a deep purple (for the Ravens’s fan?).Nothing says classic like a sunburst mirror!Here are some of the other mirrors we have. You will notice that we use them as accents throughout the house.

This is one of our most amazing mirrors.

Stunning in its own right, but when you look at the detail work, it’s amazing!

Now that fall is well and truly upon us, although 70* days occasionally pop up, it’s time to jettison that summer bag and pick up a new fall one. We’ve got a great selection of wonderful felt bags that have just come in, including shoppers, totes and clutches.

Oh, Intaglio!

Intaglio is such a classic look, dating back to the early days of the Greeks and Romans. It’s still a chic and stylish look today, and at Halcyon House Antiques, our collection of intaglio jewelry is one of our best selling items. But fear not, there’s a large enough range that you won’t see your piece coming and going. Each piece is handcrafted and assembled, and we even take custom orders for a smaller or larger piece. Ask Eric.

Baubles & Beads

One of our favorite jewelry designers is Angela Caputi, from Florence, Italy, whom Jonathan discovered on a stroll through the city one evening. Although the shop was closed, he made a point of going back the next day, and meeting with Angela and her staff, and then placing an order for Halcyon House Antiques.

We are thrilled to announce that we’ve just received the pieces from her fall line, and they’re fantastic! The colors are so rich and lush. The styles are so chic!

Angela has a great eye for design, and it shows in every piece she’s created.
