There’s something so satisfying about opening a brand new bar of soap. It unsullied by filthy hands, grubby fingers and general usage. At Halcyon House Antiques, we carry three brands of specialized soaps. They are all beautifully-made and hand-milled. They each come in the most gorgeous wrappings. Let’s look:

These are from LAFCO, and come in simple, elegant white boxes.

The Portuguese brand, Claus Porto, is known for their unusual wrappers. And Agraria, who is known for their clean and bright scents, comes in with very elegant Italian-style ribbons and wrappers.

Do stop by and pick up a few of these gorgeous soaps. They make great presents for you, or a friend!

Julie Vos Trunk Show!

We are big fans of Julie Vos’s jewelry and have been carrying it at Halcyon House Antiques for about a year now. It’s fun and funky, classic and elegant. There’s something in the collection for every age and every taste.

We are delighted to announce that we will be hosting a Julie Vos trunk show from February and we hope that you will join us for cocktails and the opening of the show.

Marsala: Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2015

Each year, Pantone, the official color matching system, announces their color of the year, and there is always a lot of chatter about it, both positive and negative. The color for 2015 is Marsala.

For those of us who remember the burgundy of bygone years, Marsala is more of the same. Sort of a faded burgundy. From Pantone’s press: Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness.

Marsala is quite a change from the past few years, which were clear, bright colors. Marsala is interesting in that it has a lot of green in it and also some blue. As I wandered around Halcyon House Antiques on Saturday, I spotted a number of items that fit into the Marsala color range.

There is not really anything that we have that I think is the true MARSALA color as proscribed by the Pantone Color Institute, but some of these come close.
