The Spring Spectrum

Although we had snow earlier this week, we’re almost to April, and at week’s end, we celebrate Easter. Spring is a time we think of soft pastel colors, reflecting the pale blue of the sky, the pinks of flowering trees, the yellows of jasmine and forsythia and the greens of newly sprouted leaves. Wandering through Halcyon House Antiques, the pale and pastel shades kept catching our attention. Some of the shades were in our jewelry, some in accessories and others in our line of John Robshaw bedding.

Our chunky resin necklaces and bracelets will be great to wear to church or an Easter brunch. They come in several shades, like these cool celadons, greys and greens in clear and opaque resins, or these warmer reds, oranges and corals,

If you want to run the gamut of pale spring colors, this piece would provide you with every shade on the spring spectrum.

If you prefer more dramatic shades, we also have this more vibrant version.

Halcyon House has also just gotten in some terrific clutch bags, which also double as cross-body bags with a long strap. These bags are just the right size to hold your wallet, phone, a bit of make-up and your keys. What else could you need?

We also just got the new John Robshaw bedding in the most beautiful colors and patterns. It is really lovely, and it all coordinates across the line. Some of the prints are traditional Indian paisleys and other motifs, while some is reflective of the classical Suzani patterns of embroidered and printed circles.

A hot pink and white comforter tops the bed, and brings the whole look together.

As with everything John Robshaw, including the man himself, it’s just great-looking!

And if there were not enough colors in the shop to remind you that it’s spring, Eric’s stashed the perennial favorite, PEEPS, all around the shop.

Holiday Ready

It’s amazing to think that Easter and Passover are just around the corner. With the cool weather we’ve been having, it doesn’t seem like the spring festivities are upon us, but they’re almost here.

Of course, we know that you’ll want to set a beautiful table, so we have gorgeous table-top accessories to make your table shine! How about this classic antique server. It doesn’t matter if that’s not your monogram on it. You can always invent some instant ancestor who was the black sheep of the family, so never was mentioned.

If you are having children at the table, and aren’t quite sure how they’ll do with your best crystal goblets, give them our great Lucite tumblers. They’re unbreakable, and will add a festive burst of color to your table. The children will like the way their drinks look through the clear dots.

Walk the Dog

As you might know, we love dogs, and many of ours have been rescued from the SPCA. We have a place in our hearts for the good work that local SPCAs carry out, and are involved in the Maryland SPCA, located on Falls Road in Hampden.

On Sunday, April 21, the MD SPCA is sponsoring the annual March for the Animals from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Druid Hill Park. The March for the Animals is the Maryland SPCA's largest annual fundraiser, raising over $343,000 for the animals. This 1.5 mile walkathon is a great way for animal-lovers to support the MD SPCA's mission of helping pets and people. The day is full of great activities including pet contests, an agility course, training classes, pet demonstrations and entertainment. All of the money raised goes toward the MD SPCA’s adoption center, pet owner education, and the care of lost and homeless animals. Bright Spots!

With the great weather we’ve had the past few days, as well as the time change (doesn’t it seem early this year?), we’re feeling spring right around the corner and summer nipping at its heels!With the warmer weather, comes the brightening of colors. Banish the blacks, greys, tans and taupes. Bring on the grass green, hot pink, turquoise, sunny yellow and white. And come on in to Halcyon House and find unique summer accessories in an assortment of bright and summery shades.

First up, bright colorful wallets, card holders and small clutch purses. They’re just the thing to pop into a bag, and take to the beach or the pool.

And to pop over your bathing suit, or a pair of linen slacks, we’ve just gotten in the most gorgeous tunics. Tunics are a trend that’s not going anywhere soon.

Tunics can be dressed up or down, and because they’re made in nice floaty linen, they’re cool in our hot summers.

 

For the gentlemen, we’ve just gotten in some of the most gorgeous silk kerchiefs or pocket squares! They come in a veritable rainbow of shades, and also great stripes and paisleys.

Goodies from the Gift Show

Stiles, Jonathan and Eric have been attending the various gift and accessories shows in New York over the past six weeks. They scour miles of aisles to find the perfect items for the shop, and of course, for you.

Their main criteria are 1) that the items are exclusive to Halcyon House Antiques, because they understand that you want to be unique in your style and not see it coming and going; and 2) that the items are the best quality and beautifully made.

The boxes have begun to arrive at Halcyon House Antiques, and the unpacking is always exciting because we know how pleased you will be with our new wares.

One of the things we’re most excited about is our expanded range of accessories, including some very special jewelry. These lapis, mother-of-pearl and gold pieces are unique to Halcyon House Antiques, and you won’t see them anywhere else in the area.

The quatrefoil design is so classic, that these pieces can be worn, and then passed down to a daughter or a niece.

 

There are also some other wonderful pieces incorporating the mother-of-pearl with gold and other stones.

And of course, we love purple!

For more than 3,000 years, jewelry with intaglios and relief has been in style, and it’s still such a great look.

But not all of our jewelry is traditional – look at this great leather and silver bracelet! Leather cords and a silver loop and hook combine to make this fun and casual bracelet.We have it in both saddle brown or deep black leather.

We have also gotten in the most amazing selection of Lucite bar-wares. This isn’t your old cloudy and scratchy Lucite, this is Lucite that has the feel and weight of glass.

Our globe ice bucket, while possibly the most difficult thing to photograph, would make an excellent present for a friend who is a world traveller!

I know you’ve seen lots of water pitchers in this classical shape, but have you ever seen a Lucite one?

These pitchers come in a range of colors and even have great glasses to go along with them!

Since they’re Lucite, you don’t have to worry about using them poolside – they won’t break or shatter!
