New John Derian!

John Derian is one of the most interesting artisans working today. He started making decoupage plates a few years ago, and has branched out from there.

At Halcyon House, we’ve been pleased to carry John’s line of decoupage plates, paperweights and platters, almost since our opening. We have just gotten in a new selection of pieces from his most recent collection, which features gorgeous flowers, mostly taken from antique and vintage prints. Each print is applied to the plate by hand, and then cut to fit exactly. Outline trims are then applied, highlighting the center image. The reverse of the plate is painted, and then a piece of felt is applied, so the plate will not scratch or mar a surface. John signs each piece, ensuring that you have an authentic John Derian plate.

We are proud to carry John Derian’s work, and if you are interested in seeing the full selection of his pieces, please stop by.

As always, if you’re interested in anything you see here, please contact Eric at Halcyon House.

Have You Seen Shagreen?

Do you know about shagreen? It’s the newest “it” texture, and you will be seeing it a lot in the coming months. Originally, it came from the rough part of the hide of animals, but now real shagreen mainly comes from the skin of sharks and rays. Shagreen’s main characteristic is its small round granulations, which give it a very distinctive look. The word shagreen comes from the French word, chagrin, now meaning anxiety, vexation, embarrassment, or annoyance.

But we’ll have none of that here, because all of our shagreen pieces are gorgeous!

We have some beautiful accessories in shagreen, including the bracelet, above, and an iphone cover in a lovely pale grey, and a wallet on the upper right, in a pale aqua with turquoise edging.

How about this sunny orange wallet and iphone cover?

Stop by and check out our other shagreen items! The more you look, the more you’ll find!

As always, please contact Eric at the shop for more information on any of the items you see here!

Love is in the Air!

Valentines Day is just around the corner, and here at Halcyon House, we’re celebrating it by scouting the shop for items that have red in them. You might remember that we did this for Ravens purple and emerald green. By focusing your eye on something singular, you will suddenly begin to see it everywhere.

Pick up a beautiful, but small box of chocolates. A small box induces much less guilt!

Although this isn’t red, it is heart-shaped. Sailors used to make shell-covered boxes while they were on long sea voyages to present to their sweethearts when they returned to land. These are sometimes called “Sailor’s Valentines”.

We have four ottomans (ottomen?) in each of the playing card suits. This big red heart would certainly make a statement!

Olive you! Nothing says love like an olive plate!

If you love your dogs as much as we love ours, this key ring will be a constant reminder of them (along with the dog hair!).

This gorgeous pillows, which reverse from grey to red, are a classic accent piece.

And then there’s the fun jewelry that we have! These red and glass beads will make a statement!

These bone and enamel pieces are unique to Halcyon House.

A red enamel frame + a photograph of you and your sweetie = a perfect present for Valentines Day.

For some cheer on those grey rainy days, how about this umbrella with black and white polka dots on the inside and bright red on the outside? And just of view, a bright red hooked handle!

Set your Valentines table with these knotted rope placemats.

Regardless of what you select, we hope that your Valentines Day is full of love! Please check back with us next week for some fun shopping news!

For information on any of the items here, please contact Eric at Halcyon House.
